Executive Director of OperationsNeosho School District

In addition to being the Vice-President Missouri School Plant Managers Association, I’m the Executive Director of Operations for the Neosho School District, where I lead the teams responsible for facilities, maintenance, grounds, technology, safety and security, food service, transportation, and our major building projects. My work with the district started in 2017, when I was elected to the Neosho School District Board of Education because I wanted to play an active role in the growth of my children and my community. Seeing the district’s needs from the board table is what led me to step into operations, where I could help solve them firsthand. Today much of my focus is on the buildings themselves: replacing aging HVAC systems, upgrading building automation, improving indoor air quality through standards like low-VOC materials, and creating district-wide design standards so every project raises the bar for the next one. My goal is to move our district from reactive repairs to planned, long-term investment in learning spaces that are safe, efficient, and built to be maintained for decades.

K-12 schools are being asked to deliver healthier, safer and more sustainable/resilient learning environments while managing constrained budgets, aging infrastructure, and increasingly complex building systems. Drawing on decades of experience operating/constructing public schools and a national perspective working with K-12 facility leaders, this session examines constructability and Total Cost of Ownership through the eyes of those responsible for operating and maintaining them. Explore how involving facilities professionals early on can improve design decisions, especially in owner-occupied projects while supporting achievable long-term performance. The goal is simple: create educational environments where teachers and students can focus on the learning, and less on the health and safety concerns of the building.
