Preparing Teachers for New Learning Environments: A Collaborative Transition Model
This session addresses the gap between construction and occupancy, equipping educators to activate new learning environments from day one. As Woodland Junior High nears the end of construction, Fayetteville Public Schools and modus studio formed a cross-disciplinary task force of teachers, administrators, and architects. This session shares a replicable process for translating design intent, sustainability goals, and building systems into daily operations, empowering educators to use the building itself as a teaching tool.

At the University of Central Missouri, the century-old Humphreys Building was reimagined as a flexible academic hub supporting cross-disciplinary collaboration. Because incoming occupants came from departments with little prior interaction, the design had to build shared culture, not just rehabilitate a structure. This session explores how inclusive engagement uncovered common needs, shaped adaptable learning spaces, and produced strategies now influencing campus-wide standards for student-centered environments.
