Design for flexibility, plan for safety, and coordinate early. The most successful gymnasium projects and outdoor sports facilities are designed around how the facility will be used today, tomorrow, and for years to come. Evaluating equipment options and coordinating athletic systems early in the design process supports a safer, more functional, and more adaptable facility. Consideration should be made for growth and shifts in activity popularity, storage and transport of equipment, ceiling suspended equipment structural support and clearances, climate control and acoustics, efficient conversion to allow for multiple uses. Presenters will share common gym design mistakes that require design modifications that will potentially increase costs, lengthen the installation timeline, and create safety concerns.
