Centerbrook Architects & Planners developed a comprehensive master plan that will determine the character and configuration of this North Carolina independent day school campus for decades to come. The program included providing more space for dining and food preparation, adding modern math and science classrooms, collaborative study spaces, and a new theater and gymnasium. Centerbrook completed the first phase of its master plan with a pair of new construction projects. The new math and science building opened for the 2018-19 academic year as did a new lower school learning center. The second phase, a new student center, was also completed and included both new construction and renovation work to establish separate dining facilities for the lower and upper schools. The third phase, a renovation to create a new upper school learning center, is in progress.
Completed in 2018, Corvian Community School expanded their campus with a brand-new, ground-up 10-acre, 70,000 sq. ft. high school. Each classroom and lab have large windows positioned for direct views to the surrounding natural areas and a dining patio provides a space for students to be outside during the school day. Other highlights include two-story blackbox theater with a 20-foot overhead door for a flexible indoor/outdoor teaching and performing space along with 1,000 sq. ft. music and chorus practice rooms, a two-story, multi-purpose dining space and grand staircase, and a regulation size gym with bleacher seating for 300 and capacity for 1,000 person assemblies, alongside locker rooms, a yoga/dance studio and a fully equipped weightlifting training room.
